Thai offshore well is uncommercial
An offshore well in Thailand has been suspended after drill tests found it to be uncommercial.
Salamander Energy had been carrying out the openhole drill stem test in search of commercial gas at the Dao Ruang-2 (DR-2) well.
However, the well failed to flow at a sustained commercial rate and has now been suspended, although the company says it may be re-entered at a later date.
The well was drilled to a depth of 2,212 metres true vertical depth sub-sea into the eastern flank of the Dao Ruang structure, after a cluster of faults and fractures were identified from high resolution three-dimensional seismic data.
The rig will now move to drill Dao Ruang-3 in a different location on the structure which Salamander Energy believes could hold up to 500 billion cubic feet of gas in total.
