Occidental to develop Abu Dhabi gas field
American oil and gas company Occidental Petroleum Corporation is to develop one of the Middle East’s largest natural gas fields.
The Abu Dhabi government selected Occidental to work on the onshore Shah natural gas field, which is approximately 110 miles from the city and holds gas with a high sulphur content.
Under the terms of a 30-year agreement, Occidental will build new pipelines and processing plants to process up to a billion cubic feet of natural gas from the field.
It is anticipated that this will produce approximately 500 million cubic feet of network gas per day, as well as a “significant” amount of condensate and natural gas liquids.
Occidental chairman and chief executive Ray Irani said production at the Shah field would be an important future resource to fill the rapidly expanding regional demand for natural gas.
Under the agreement, Occidental will hold a 40 per cent stake in developments at the Shah field, with the remaining interest held by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
