Drilling confirms major oil field

Drilling has confirmed the Enyenra site off the coast of Ghana as a major light oil field.

London-listed Tullow Oil made the discovery while drilling an appraisal well in the upper and lower channels of the Enyenra oil field, the new name for the Owo discovery.

Results of drilling, wireline logs, samples of reservoir fluids and pressure data show that Enyenra-2A has intersected 21 metres of net oil pay in the Upper Channel and 11 metres of net oil pay in the Lower Channel.

Pressure data from the Upper Channel has also demonstrated that the oil is in communication with the Owo-1 well, while oil pressures in the Lower Channel suggested it may also be in communication with the deeper pools seen in Owo-1 and its sidetrack.

Tullow Oil exploration director Angus McCoss said the confirmation was an ‘exceptional’ result as the company looks to declare commerciality at the site later in the year.
